The Academic Advantage is Presenting Sponsor for LA’s Best Annual Family Brunch

On June 5th, 2011, The Academic Advantage was proud to support LA’s BEST as their presenting sponsor at their 16th Annual Family Brunch. More than 400 people turned out to make after school programs their cause at the 16th Annual Family Brunch at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. LA’s BEST honored Elizabeth Banks with the Children’s Champion Award presented by Eva Longoria, the Nederlander Organization and the Pantages Theatre with the Community Partner Award presented by Cathy Rigby,and Morris Vanegas with the Distinguished Alumnus Award presented by Shayla Rivera. Twenty-one student winners of a citywide essay and art contest were also honored. The program was hosted by Michaela Pereira and included special guests NBA legend Jerry West, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and LA’s BEST Board Chair Marvin Suomi.

LA’s BEST is recognized as one of the nation’s top after school programs and has been featured in publications including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and USA Today among many other magazines, newspapers and other media. Currently LA’s BEST serves 28,000 kids at 195 elementary school sites in Los Angeles in neighborhoods most vulnerable to gangs, drugs and crime and at schools with the lowest student test scores.

Every year, The Academic Advantage donates both monetary and in-kind donations to numerous educational, civic, cultural, health care and community organizations. The Company takes pride in upholding its social responsibility to corporate citizenship and in supporting worthy charitable causes. Primary areas of focus include education, health and human services and student programs.
